If you use your computer often you can tell when there is something wrong. If it is not working right or running slower than usual, you will notice it. There are some simple tips on how my PC works better that I can share with you. These easy to do tips help keep my computer working right in the same way a tune up does for a car. Your computer, like anything else, needs regular maintenance to help it function at its best and keep your internet experience the best it can be.
Tip 1 for Tuning up My PC
The first thing to do is make sure you are using the tools that are on your computer. There are system tools that help keep my PC in good working order. You can easily find these under accessories in the startup menu. Using the disk cleanup tool and defrag tool are an easy way to do maintenance on your computer.
Disk cleanup is a way to get rid of unnecessary files. Defrag, or defragment, helps defragment your disk making your computer run more efficiently. One way to think of it is comparing it to a library. If you were to go in and pick up a book, look through the book as you wander around and leave pages as you go, there is a trail of pages that are not in order. When you defrag it is like taking all those pages and putting them back in order and where they belong.
Finding System Tools to Tune Up My PC:
1. Go to Start menu
2. Find ‘Accessories,’ click to show list
3. Find ‘System Tools,’ click to show list
4. ‘Disk Cleanup,’ click to use
5. Repeat steps 1-3
6. ‘Disk Defragmenter,’ click to use
Tip 2 for My PC Tune Up
There is a way to check the disk for errors on my PC. This tool will not only check the disk for errors but will correct any errors that are found. This is another simple and easy thing you can do, as usual maintenance, to keep your computer functioning at its best. You can find this in properties for the disk under tools.
Finding the Error Checking Tool:
1. Go to Start menu
2. Click ‘Computer’ or ‘My Computer’
3. Right click on the disk drive
4. Click ‘Properties’ from the menu
5. At top of properties click ‘Tools’
6. Click ‘Error Checking’ to use the tool
Tip 3 for My PC Tune Up
Make sure you are running your anti-virus program weekly to scan for any viruses. You can use any anti-virus program you would like. There are many free programs available that work very well including Microsoft Security Essentials and Avast. It is a simple way to make sure you are keeping your computer safe and doing regular maintenance. To keep my PC tuned up I do set my anti-virus program to run weekly so I never forget. You can also set the program to check for updates regularly so you will always have the latest version.
As you run your weekly virus check you should also be running your malware removal program. I run these programs weekly, one after the other, which has become routine for me. This is a good way to keep my PC up to date on everything and I consider it regular maintenance which is necessary. It is a weekly tune up for my computer that helps keep it running its best.
Tip 4 in My PC Tune Up Regime
Each week to keep my PC tuned up I also run a ccleaner. This program helps keep your computer clean and running faster. It optimizes the system, removes unused files which frees up disk space, and it cleans all traces of online activity. It cleans all browsers, temporary files, and is completely spyware and adware free. There is a registry cleaner in the program that removes old and unused icons, invalid shortcuts, and many other things to keep your computer running faster.
I do all the weekly maintenance on my PC to keep it working great. It doesn’t take very long and by doing regular tune ups it helps catch something that might cause a bigger problem. When you get in the habit of doing routine, weekly maintenance on your computer it helps keep it clean, run faster and work better. Taking the time to tune up your computer will soon become second nature to you and fit right into your weekly schedule.
