IndexMedia Pips Makes Images on the Web More Engaging

Melbourne-based startup, IndexMedia, has a brilliant tool for advertisers and publishers, which turns boring banner ads into highly engaging ones. The tool, Pips, aims to revolutionize the digital advertising space by embedding videos, images, links, or even social media channels onto the image, turning static images into a digital advertising real estate.
Case in point, Honda has adopted IndexMedia Pips in its digital campaign for its latest 2012 Honda Civic hatchback. When users hover over the images, there will be small icons (called Pips) appearing on the image, detailing more information about the car specs. So apart from showcasing just images, there is also relevant, useful, and entertaining information for potential buyers, allowing them to make a more educated decision before making the purchase.
But won’t it get annoying when the icon perpetually pops up when you don’t need them? Adam Ellison, CEO of Index Media, elaborates:
Pips, inherently, are highly targeted and less obtrusive. They add value, by adding helpful and relevant information – we are seeing the proof in higher interactions rates and click-through rates up to 20 times that of traditional banner ads. [...] Pips turn ‘on’ individually when hovered over, or touched (depending on the device). This allows large amounts of information to be placed in a small space. Perfect for mobiles and tablets.
When Adam did a product run-through with me, it made me think that Pips could come in handy for e-commerce websites and online publishers. I could imagine fashion bloggers or reviews sites using this platform as an alternative to monetize (see example, pictured right). In fact, Pips aims to change the entire digital advertising landscape by getting people more engaged in something they already have an interest in.
IndexMedia Pips caters to both publishers and advertisers, and the latter can even customize the Pips to your liking. If you are interested to find out more, you can visit their website here.
